Fine Arts
AboutThe Kenosha Unified School District seeks to provide a wide range of musical and artistic opportunities and experiences through which each child can develop appropriate skills, understandings, and values fundamental to his or her lifetime participation in the fine arts as a practicing artist or fine arts consumer. Fine arts education begins at the elementary school level. Elementary music and art teachers provide a variety of opportunities for student-musicians and student-artists to develop individual creativity and group projects. Students may begin playing orchestral instruments at the beginning of the fourth grade and band instruments at the beginning of the fifth grade. At the middle school level, students have opportunities to participate in more content-specific courses. They may elect to focus their efforts in musical ensembles such as band, choir, and orchestra. Art classes further develop the students’ creative skills in two and three-dimensional art projects. Extra-curricular theatrical opportunities are offered at this level. High school student-musicians and student-artists continue to flourish in numerous fine arts courses. Along with band, choir, and orchestra, students may take music theory, honors music and art, advanced placement art, and theatre arts courses. Numerous small chamber ensembles provide a unique experience for students to create and perform locally, nationally, and internationally. MusicMusic education begins in elementary school.
