High School Overcrowding Relief Referendum

Vote Tuesday, February 19, 2008
7:00AM – 8:00PM

Two Questions on the Ballot
(you can vote on each separately)

Question #1:

  • Shall the District issue bonds in an amount not to exceed $52,500,000 for the purpose of paying the costs of renovation to the Indian Trail Academy and constructing and equipping additions in order to create a comprehensive (grades 9-12) high school with academies?

Question #2:

  • Shall the District be authorized to exceed the revenue limit beginning with the 2010-2011 school year on a recurring basis by an amount of $2,427,000 for the purpose of paying operations and maintenance costs of a comprehensive (grades 9-12) high school with academies at Indian Trail Academy?

Why Do We Need This Project Now?

  1. It relieves our serious high school overcrowding. KUSD now has 22,769 students trailing only the Milwaukee and Madison school districts as the third largest district in Wisconsin.
  2. It is a cost effective and fiscally responsible solution for taxpayers. By expanding at Indian Trail, we can maximize the use of one of our existing facilities, avoid buying new property, and respond to our enrollment growth with only a modest tax increase to support the operations of a third high school.
  3. It provides greater opportunities for high school students district-wide. Expanding Indian Trail to a boundary high school will provide more access to athletic programs, performing arts, and co-curricular activities for all KUSD students grades 9-12.

Now One of the Largest School Districts in Wisconsin
