Building Entry Procedures
eSchool Visitors
eSchool Program visitors will use door #13 located on Northeast corner of the building. Our entrance is adjacent to 22nd Avenue and 85th Street.
The safety and welfare of our students has always been and will continue to be included among our top priorities. Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) has worked extensively to promote safety both inside and outside of our buildings. Among the safety initiatives implemented throughout KUSD are consistent school entry procedures and visitor check in protocols. Together this is noted as our “Visitor Management System.” The system has several procedures that are designed to deny potentially dangerous individuals entry into our schools. Please know, all safety procedures and protocols have been established for the sole purpose of ensuring our students and staff are safe. While safety is our number one priority, please know we remain committed to maintaining a welcoming environment that celebrates our home, community and school partnerships. With this in mind, I’d like to apprise our school community of the following school entry protocols.
Intercom/video door systems have been updated so that school staff may more effectively screen visitors to our schools. This helps to ensure those who may potentially pose a threat are denied entry. Visitors are required to enter through the main entrance, as all other exterior doors will remain locked at all times. Upon arriving to a school’s main entrance, visitors will ring a buzzer indicating their wish to enter the building. When this occurs, staff charged with the responsibility of screening visitors will examine the video monitor and inquire as to the purpose of the visit.
If, after posing a short series of questions, the staff member concludes the visitor does not appear to pose a safety risk, the visitor will be allowed entry into the main office. All visitors must first report to the main office where office staff will greet and assist them. Those proceeding beyond the office area will first sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Upon completion of the visit, badges must be returned to the main office and visitors must sign out.
It is important to understand that for school entry protocols to be effective it is imperative that all visitors are screened at the door. Thus, as much as we wish to be polite and helpful to our fellow parents and community members, we ask that approved visitors try to avoid holding doors open for others. Furthermore, if a visitor is standing next to a person that has been denied entry, please wait for a staff member to come to the door and assist prior to attempting to enter. This will help to ensure the person of concern does not enter.
We hope all members of our school community can understand that if visitors are automatically buzzed in without taking the aforementioned precautions, we are subjecting our schools to potential danger. Thus, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we strive to achieve the safest school possible while maintaining a welcoming learning and cooperative school environment.
