landwehr_001 LAP Hello! If you’re reading this, you’ve succumbed to the pull of curiosity and want to know more about Mr. Landwehr, ESL teacher at Lance Middle School. For some, a name and title is all that matters. But you are different.

You may be pleased to discover that I am 43 years old and married to my favorite person in the world (who also happens to be a KUSD educator). Together, we have three kids who are all awesome and different at the same time, which I love. Maybe you want to know how long I’ve been teaching for (19 years), and where I learned to speak Spanish (high school, college, and at my first job out of college). Like many people, you might want to ask if I am involved in any extracurricular activities at Lance (I am the track and field coach).

More importantly, however, you’re probably wondering about how I feel about teaching, students, and Lance as a whole. As someone who is naturally as curious as you are, and enjoys learning as you do, teaching is certainly the job I’m best suited for. Each day as a teacher is a little different and it’s one of the best things about the job. I love the challenge of teaching students a new language, and learning about different cultures along the way. It’s truly enjoyable getting to know the students and seeing them grow throughout their time at Lance and become more confident in themselves, try new things, and ask questions. Furthermore, I have always felt that middle school kids are smarter, more accepting, and cooler than people give them credit for, and I still believe that even after raising one! I enjoy being a part of the school, and the greater Lance community as a whole, whether it be coaching the track team, or seeing students and families when I am out in the community with my own family. Lance feels like home to me, and I hope it feels that way to you, too.
